The European Norm EN is divided into 7 parts.
BS EN – Railway applications. Fire protection on railway vehicles. General
Part 1 EN contains the principal terms and definitions and general regulations governing the classification of rail vehicles in operational and design categories, as well as fire safety objectives.
In addition to the operation category, rail vehicles are also categorised by design:.
Part 2 EN describes the requirements for the fire behaviour of materials and components. Fire prevention tests according to DIN EN CEN TSpart 2 The fire behaviour of 45545- and components is dependent on their inherent properties, but also their application; the shape and arrangement of the materials; the exposed surface and the relative mass and thickness of the material.
BS EN 45545-1:2013
On this basis, the listed products are classified and further categorised into subgroups according to the following:. The operation and design categories according to DIN EN are used to determine the hazard levels HL on which the requirements are based.
This part specifies the test procedures, test conditions and the requirements for each hazard level in terms of fire behaviour. The requirements are currently specified in 25 levels R1-R Part 3 EN covers the fire resistance of fire doors. The measures set out in this part are designed to protect passengers and staff in rail vehicles in the event of a fire on board.
These test are conducted in our own fire test centre in Lathen Emsland:. Fire doors can be of different standards.
Part 4 EN contains fire protection requirements for the constructive design of rail vehicles. In part 5 EN the fire protection requirements for electrical equipment, including that of trolleybuses, track-guided buses and magnetic levitation vehicles are specified.

Part 6 EN describes the required fire detection and alarm systems, fire-fighting equipment and accompanying fire protection measures. Part 7 EN deals with the fire protection requirements for plants and equipment for flammable liquids and gases.
Operation and Design Categories. On this basis, the listed products are classified and further categorised into subgroups according to the following: Use in accessible or not openly accessible areas driver, etc.
